Town Selce

Selce is a small tourist town and harbour placed in a bay slightly inclined towards the sea, 3 km south-east of town Crikvenica. This town of Kvarner area was already inhabited in prehistoric times and the oldest traces of human habitats have been found on mountain St. Juraj.

Once a village of fishermen and stonemasons, during the last hundred years town transformed into attractive tourist destination. Clean air, bright water and modern developed beaches (beach Rokan and beach Poli Mora) provide an unforgettable holiday for tourists from numerous European countries. Selce has won many awards for the excellence of its tourism offer and the overall appearance of the town. It has also won the title of the best holiday resort on Kvarner four times. In addition, it came second twice and first once (in 2002) in the “Blue Flower” campaign organized by the Croatian National Tourist Board for the best holiday resort on the Adriatic.

City boasts several historic sites that testify to its past. The parish church of Sv. Catherine (built in the 1888th in the neo-Gothic style), the Chapel of St. Chatrine (assumed to be derived from the pre-Romanesque period), the Chapel of St. Joseph (shrine was baroque nave church St. Catherine), the Chapel of St. Fabian and Sebastian (located outside the city, built in the neo-Baroque style), the Chapel of St. Juraj (assumed to its oldest part was built in the pre-Romanesque), Olive mill “TOC” (the last accurate mill was built of stone, taken from nearby Roman ruins) and other historical sites…

The town has lovely coastal landscaped promenade and offer rich cultural, entertainment and sporting events program during summer season, such as (folklore, concerts, art exhibitions, street show, fishing festivals, sport fishing and many others). Lovers of gastronomy could find their spot and enjoy in many small family oriented restaurants and their speciality prepared dishes.
